Staffordshire Marquetry Group - member profile

Shirley Watts

Shirley lives some distance from Eccleshall, so cannot make every meeting. She likes applied work and has many inventive ideas ... whenever she turns up at a meeting there is always new work to see and discuss.

St.Andrew's Church, Totteridge

A clean and attractive picture which Shirley originally entered in our Group "My Home Town" competition.

Garden Bird Coaster Set

More neat applied work from Shirley, which achieved her first award at National level ... taking second place in the Beginners' Applied class in 2006.

Art Deco Tissue Box & Coasters
(after John Russell)

A clean and attractive box complemented by two practical coasters.

Cottage Letter Rack

Practical and attractive. Shirley had to polish the rack in three pieces before assembly as otherwise there was no easy way to deal with the inside!

Fox & Geese Board

Having cut the main part of the board Shirley found one or two of the intersections were not quite perfect. She succumbed to a suggestion from the Secretary to insert brass rod into each point.
The result is a stunningly bright board which gleams in the right light. This board deservedly won the Group "Game Board" competition in 2004.
