More members' work

Here's a further selection of members' work from those for whom I don't have enough good photos of their work to merit their own page.

Canal Scene - Douglas Leese

An atmospheric interpretation of a classic Staffordshire industrial landscape.

Lacewood (Platanus spp.) is ideal for distant brickwork.

Book of Botany - Derrick Warner

Derrick created this inspired piece of applied work by making a special press with curved faces. He glued two leaves of veneer together and clamped them in the press until dry. Then he added further sheets one at a time until he had the required thickness of 'pages'. The pictures were the last to be applied, being carefully eased to shape and clamped in the same press until firmly stuck.

The Castle - John Archer

One of John's very first pictures, based on one of our "beginner's" designs.

Holy Trinity Church, Eccleshall - John Archer

John based this picture of our local church on a drawing by his son. The Church is very impressive as Eccleshall was, for many years, the home of the Bishops of Chester and Lichfield.

Box Decoration - Bill Faulkner

A classical design from Bill, which is destined to enhance the top of a small box. Note the delicate shading of the bowl and stem, even though the whole motif is only about 60mm across!

Village Scene - Arthur Brookes

A beautiful, yet simple, picture which Arthur didn't show to us for a while - we can't imagine why!

Stag Table - Evelyn Roe

A lot of care and attention went into matching the veneers to produce the star effect. Evelyn has transformed an otherwise "scrap" table into a real joy.

The Flag - Evelyn Roe

An attractive clock with a great finish.

The Kirk - Jo Miller

A fairly simple kit design, but executed with good veneer choice and excellent cutting.

The Bay - Jo Miller

Partner to "The Kirk" above.

Basket of Flowers - Derrick Warner

Careful use of sand-shading on dyed veneers produced this lovely study which was highly commended at the Marquetry Society National Exhibition 2000.

One Glorious Summer - Joan Stewart

A great result for a first picture. Note especially the subtle folds of the jacket and the single piece of veneer used for the hat.

Tic-Toc - Bill Faulkner

Bill's neat mantel clock uses the bubbly Tamo (Japanese ash) for its background veneer.

Summer Bouquet - Doreen Spriggs

An attractive picture which benefited from subtle sand-shading. Note the effective use of the silky-looking willow veneer for the petals of the main rose.

Digging for Lugworms in Morecambe Bay
Bill Faulkner

An effective picture that our then-Chairman made for a Group "three veneer" competition.
