Joan Tooth

Joan is a keen craftswoman with a wide range of skills including knitting and lacemaking in addition to marquetry. She particularly enjoys applied marquetry and has made a number of small boxes for friends and family.

Forget-me-not Box

A delicate design suiting this elegant box. Joan exhibited this piece in the Beginners Applied class at the Marquetry Society National Exhibition 2002 and gained second place in the marquetry class of the Eccleshall Show in 2003.

Fuchsias 1 & 2

These just show how photos can play tricks. Both backgrounds are beech and very similar in colour.

Tissue Box

A simple idea - 'wrapping' the box in veneer to look like paper and ribbon. Joan took this one stage further by mimicking striped paper - necessitating considerable care to get the stripes to line up.

Three-Drawer Chest

A commercial 'whitewood' box transformed by some sympathetic marquetry and a change of drawer knobs. Note the way the vine design meanders across the faces of the cabinet.

Rocker Box

A gift for her guitarist son, this tidy box used clipart as a starting point for the design.
